Volunteering

Volunteers are a vital component of The Learning Bank program. The Learning Bank offers something for everyone. Volunteers are needed for morning, evening, and Saturday hours. Call the Volunteer Coordinator at 410-659-5452.

Instruction

  • Tutor one-to-one or small group
  • Teach a class (for those who are qualified)
  • Tutor in a classroom setting
  • Serve as a substitute teacher
  • Assist in the computer center
  • Assist in the library
  • Conduct mock interviews for the job readiness program

Fund-Raising

  • Organize special events
  • Help with the capital campaign
  • Help with public relations
  • Be a contributor
  • Recruit other contributors
  • Assist with the major fund raiser, Bowling for Scholars

Management

  • Serve on the Advisory Council
  • Prepare bulk mailings
  • Assist with clerical jobs
  • Serve as receptionist
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Provide computer expertise
  • Help with building maintenance and repairs
  • Locate in-kind contributions
  • Assist with special events
  • Provide expertise in media, education, business or law

Volunteer Opportunities

On-going:

  • Tutors
  • Typist - to answer correspondence and to send thank you letters for donations
  • Open computer lab assistant - help learners, teachers, and tutors access and fully use our SkillsBank and other computer programs, navigate the internet, assist with MS Office programs like Word, report problems with hardware or software
  • Volunteer Friday Organizer - organize learners to take part in community service opportunities each Friday during cycles, set up places for them to go, organize transportation, supervise learners during activity
  • Web Site Oversight - keep website current and accurate
  • Advisory Council - professionals and community leaders to serve 3 year terms as members to assist the director in matters of program policy, serve on working committees

As Needed :

  • Bulk mailings - stuff and label spring "Annual Giving" appeal and fall "Annual Report" mailing
  • Solicity in-kind contributions
  • Guest Speakers - cycle focus
